Local newspaper industry under party-state system：an analysis of the relationship between Authoritarian Regime and Wu San-Lian's《Independent Evening News》(1959-1988) from a cultural hegemonic perspective

博士 === 世新大學 === 傳播研究所(含博士班) === 94 === Through historical approach, this research is to put《Independent Evening News》of Wu San-Lian period into the historical condition of authoritarian regime after the war in Taiwan, and take the hegemony theory of Gamsci to analize the interaction between local newspaper industry in Taiwan and authoritarian ruler of KMT under authoritarian regime. The purpose of this research is to discuss the role of Independent Evening News’intellectual Wu San-Lian in this particular political structure. The purposes of this research are: 1.Under the authoritarian regime, what can be KMT regime used as media strategies to form the ideology that is conducive to KMT hegemony? Under the domination strategies of KMT’s hegemony, what was the media ecology that local newspaper industry in Taiwan present? 2.According to Gramsci’s hegemony theory, what role was Wu San-Lian perform as an intellectual? Under KMT’s hegemony dominance, how was Wu-San-Lian achieve his ideal? 3.During the“hegemony”dominance, how does《Independent Evening News》Wu San-Lian formalize discourses different from the ruler in significant news event? And how to sustain a delicate relationship with the ruling class? What role was Wu San-Lian perform in Taiwan’s democratic politics development? This research discovered that: During the Authoritarian Regime period, Wu San-Lian and《Independent Evening News》performed different roles along with political environment changes; under strict(hand) Authoritarian Regime period, Wu San-Lian is one of the participant of Taiwan democratic politics, under loose (soft) Authoritarian Regime period, he performed as a liaison of Taiwan democratic politics, and during the democratic transition period, he performed as a straight forward criticism of Taiwan democratic politics. As a whole, during Authoritarian Regime period Wu San-Lian and《Independent Evening News》were performed as a “miserable hero”, that is to say, during the enlightenment period of Taiwan democratics , Wu San-Lian and 《Independent Evening News》is the symbol of Taiwan democratic politics, during the pursuing of democratic politics and freedom of speech, Wu San-Lian and 《Independent Evening News》can be said as “sacrifying themselves and lighting up democratic system”. But they finally getting exhausted in the end, and gradually walk into history along with the collapse of Authoritarian Regime.
