Description
Summary:碩士 === 實踐大學 === 家庭研究與兒童發展研究所 === 94 === Aging population is a fact in Taiwan. The ratio of age over 65 years old will reach 10% of the total population in Taiwan in 2007. The number of the aged increases rapidly, it creates multiple problems of the elder’s adaptation to their housing environment because there is no barrier-free housing design in the past. Therefore, the care-givers of their families encounter various difficulties when they want to help their disabled parents. This study is designed to understand the elder’s adaptation and expectation of senior housing environment through a questionnaire survey and supplemented by a focus-group interview of scholars, professionals, and experts related to the main topic of “How to improve the housing environment for elderly to function adequately.” 1) The result of questionnaire survey: A purpose sampling There of 112 elderly is a 99% of total elderly who live in the high rise of safe tall-steel buildings and apartments with certain protection of earth-quake, storm and erosion. 83% of the elderly expressed “Satisfied” with their housing environment except 17% of the elderly of the elderly who expressed having difficulty with the lack of a free-barrier environment. The priorities of elder’s expectations may list as firstly, they want to live in a familiar environment; secondly, they want to live in a safe housing environment; thirdly, they want to have access to their daily needs conveniently. The unhealthy elder’s need for a barrier-free environment is higher than the healthy elders. 2) The result of focus-group interview: All eight expert participants of the focus-group interview agree that the continuing increase of aging population in Taiwan will eventually increase the difficulty of caring the elderly parents by their family members at home. Therefore, the way of changing the housing environment for the elderly may supplement the family care and support the elderly to function adequately. The Japanese Model of Collective House may be helpful not only for the new business of architectural design but also for the improvement of senior housing environment that carries the important meaning of mutual support for the elderly. It is recommended that the government and private business should cooperate together to test the feasibility of introducing the idea of Collective House into Taiwan.
