During the earlier times in Taoyuan, due to special environmental conditions and agricultural irrigation needs, irrigation ponds were developed and distributed across the farming areas in conjunction with growing land cultivation activities. The relatively large quantity and high density of irrigation ponds appearing in the area became unique cultural landmarks. Throughout the course of time, irrigation ponds further proved their values in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem environment; not only did they provide animals and plants suitable habitats, they also helped in regulating the microclimate and storing water resources which effectively protected the land against flood. With the recent transformation of the agriculture industry and related landfill efforts, irrigation ponds were reduced to a little bit more than 3000 in quantities as of the present writing. Keeping the remaining irrigation ponds had become an important social and environmental topic. This feasibility study discussed the conservation of irrigation ponds and their reuse values via aligning Taoyuan elementary schools to utilize irrigation ponds as environmental education sites. By examining Taoyuan irrigation ponds’ historical documents, analyzing current environmental education content, identifying key resource reuse factors, this study further defined these key factors and discussed the data gathering methods correlating to their associated evaluation criteria. This study utilized specialist questionnaire method seeking information from professionals, scholars, and participating elementary school principals and teachers related to environmental education. By applying Analytic Hierarchy Process method to the first phase of studying the returned specialist questionnaire, this study was able to drill down to the key factors influencing the effective use of irrigation ponds as elementary school environmental education sites and their necessary resource allocations required. If irrigation ponds could effectively become elementary school environmental education sites, they could provide students with the essential knowledge, the positive attitude, the necessary techniques and the ideological values of environmental protection and conservation. In the future, other landscape resources as well could be evaluated as potential environmental education sites to help achieve further natural resource conservation milestones -- establishing a symbiotic relationship between development and environmental protection and securing sustainable development for each environmental resource. 王秀娟 2007 學位論文 ; thesis 0 zh-TW
