Summary: | 碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 藝術研究所 === 94 === In the first semester of the second year of graduate studies, the author took Prof. Kuen-Cherng Sheu’s dissertation writing course and learned a lot of valuable experiences regarding writing from several people who have already finished graduate studies through co-op. However, no matter how abundant and excellent other people’s experiences are, not being able to incorporate them into one’s own experience will only turn them into a castle in the air – an ineffective illusion. Only by encountering and solving problems in the actual practice can one acquire his/her very own experience. After Prof. Kuen-Cherng Sheu and Prof. Meei-Er Ueng suggested the author to write about artist Prof. Ching-Jung Chen, the author began to study him with a curious and eager attitude in order to find out the spirit and style of this famous artist and also to examine how his artistic style is formed from the perspectives of the history of Taiwanese art and the schools and the story of Western painting.
The author first collected more than twenty writings and albums of paintings published by Ching-Jung Chen since understanding his philosophies and beliefs in art creation would allow a better understanding of how his artistic style and techniques are formed. Having a wide range of artistic achievements, Prof. Ching-Jung Chen has expressed techniques of painting through different media such as lithoprints, copperplate prints, dry/wet wall painting, china printing, glazing, oil painting, water color, embossment, famille rose, and mosaic. Issues such as preservation and maintenance of paintings were also valued by Prof. Chen and deserve the author’s in-depth analysis. Since Prof. Chen has a large quantity of diverse works, the author has spent a great deal of energy and time on determining the most appropriate way of manifesting his techniques and styles. Besides viewing artistic creation as stringently as work, this artist’s relentless pursuit toward perfection in his time when he is not teaching has also provided his followers an invaluable support in research.
