Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 電子工程系 === 93 === The crystal of an acousto-optic tunable filter (AOTF) is an anisotropic medium. When the light traveling in the medium, the refractive index would be different in different polarization. It makes a time delay, which is called differential group delay (DGD) and the phenomenon used in transmission is called polarization-mode dispersion (PMD).
PMD causes the signal distortion and is a major limitation to the bandwidth of the optical transmission system. A set of coupled equations can be derived from Maxwell's equations and kDB system, and can describe the relation between lightwaves of AOTF. An analytical expression of the lightwaves and Stokes parameters, can be found. The DGD could hance be derived. A computer simulations of state of polarization (SOP) changing and experiments are provided to check to validity of our theory.
