Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 建築系 === 94 === A perfect multi-purpose hall would have adjustable acoustics for different performance demand. Adjustable acoustics is realized most often by adjusting the sound absorption of surface, but which is not so effective as adjusting room volume for low frequency sound. As a variation of volume control, coupled room effect produces a double slope decay, which can provide clarity with a sense of reverberance. This research is about utilizing the stage house of a multi-purpose hall as an adjustable coupled volume. Objective study using computer modeling is conducted in conjunction with subjective test to evaluate listeners’ response to simulated orchestral music containing coupled room effect. The objective results indicate that reverberation time is significantly influenced by the location of the aperture besides aperture size and the coupled volume. The subjective results indicate that listeners can discern the different when reverberation time increase. However, the sensation of reverberance has no relation with the overall impression.
