Primary research issues include: (1) parameterizing the size and positional dimensions of mold plates and standard parts in a mold base, (2) studying the removal of interference region between the blank strip and corresponding mold plates, (3) creating and positioning of slides for punching and bending operations, (4) creating the punching mechanism, (5) removing the interference region between the punching mechanism and mold plates, (6) cutting the corresponding region so that the metal after punching can be dropped to the ground without interference, and (7) creating the dimensioned 2D drawings for mold plates and elements of the punching mechanism. As for system implementation, this thesis uses Pro/Toolkit and MFC of Visual C++ to develop a Windows-based system to achieve the abovementioned functions, i.e., creation of slides and relevant mechanism, removal the material which causes interference during the punching operation, and the creation of 2D drawings. The use of the developed system helps a punch design task in a way that it reduces the time spend in drawing of punches and dies, and ensures that the whole components in progressive die are free-of-collision.
