This macrocycle/molecular-clip complex functions as a quadruply controllable molecular switch for the addition and removal of heat, metal ions, protons, electrons. To extend the application of this molecular clip system, we plan to synthesize new molecular clips that present suitable functionalities as their “feet”. We believe that these functional groups can be used to anchor the molecular clips onto the surfaces of gold nanoparticles.
