Abstract
This research aims at probing into that the foreign spouse and her children read altogether with the picture books and the effect of co-reading which applies to the parent education Moreover, the researcher tries to understand the predicament while co-reading and find the solution to solve it.
This research mainly adopts the method of observing, complementing it with the interviews in depth and questionnaire. After reading relevant documents carefully and discussing with the experienced leader of parent-children co-reading, the researcher designs a lesson plan of parent-child co-reading, and then invites five foreign spouses and their children living in Taitung to attend, from December 10, 2005 to January 14, 2006, once in a week, which takes 2 hours each time, lasting six weeks. The study tools include the form of comment for the attendees and the form of feedback for parent-child co-reading. Concerned with the attitude and the way which the foreign spouses cultivate their children, the themes of the picture books as co-reading texts are “the interaction among the families” and “the relationship among the families.”
The results of the study are found:
(1) The mode which the foreign spouse likes to co-read with their children---warm-up, parent-children co-reading, discussion, sharing and feedback.
(2) The parent-children co-reading is helpful to the way and attitude of bring up children in daily life.
The predicaments when carrying on the parent-children co-reading include the sample of objective people, the tactics to recruit trainees, the selection for the activity leader, the time and place for co-reading, the bad weather, etc. The researcher not only tries to solve the above predicament but also put forward the concrete strategy for holding advanced courses and the training for the activity leaders.
According to the results of the study, the researcher gives some advice. When the school, the educator for family education or relevant organization hold parent-children co-reading activities, they can use the mode--- warm-up, parent-children co-reading, discussion, sharing and feedback. The unofficial group and the ordinary people can donate the picture books or sponsor the resources to hold the parent( the foreign-spouse)-children co- reading activities to enhance the motivation for the foreign spouses attending the activities.
As for the future, the researcher can do a further study on the efficiency of the foreign spouses bringing up their children with the different mode of parent- children co-reading.
