Bereavement dreams: A narrative research of people who suffer unexpected bereavement and their experiences of dreaming about the deceased relatives.

The other motive is the researcher’s experiences of her assistance to people who lost their loved ones. These two motives inspired the author to deeply explore the relationship between bereavement dreams and the grief course. The author interviewed three people who experienced unexpected bereavement. After they narrated their bereavement dreams and grief course, the researcher meaningful compacted and reorganized their narratives for constructing their story context. After construction, the researcher analyzed and interpreted the story context according to her professional study in counseling. The researcher found seven characteristics through these three people’s experiences of bereavement dreams: 1.) Bereavement dreams reflect the individual’s situation of mourning task of grief. 2.) The individual’s internal-external conflicts display in bereavement dreams and the individual try to solve these conflicts. 3.) Bereavement dreams are full of emotion and stimulate the individual to integrate. 4.) Bereavement dreams assistant the individual to accomplish one’s unfinished business. 5.) Bereavement dreams re-link the relationship between the individual and the dead one. 6.) Bereavement dreams link to people’s similar prior emotion and their life experiences. 7.) Bereavement dreams are the individual’s instinct mechanism to adjust grief. After acquiring characteristics of bereavement dreams, the researcher proposes a new opinion of loss and grief counseling as well as therapy. Eventually the researcher went through her experiences of bereavement dreams again； meanwhile, reconstructed her understanding as well as rediscovery of her experiences of loss.
