The method of content analysis was utilized to understand the status of Taiwan’s music education research, to compare the differences and similarities between them, and to investigate the context of their development as well as trends. Subjects of this study were 320 research papers from the three research paper categories of music education degree theses, National Science Council-funded music education project papers, and university or college-published journal articals in Taiwan area. Descriptive statistics and chi-square tests were used for analysis to obtain research goals. Conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. Among Taiwan’s music education research papers, degree theses were what developed most vigorously, and particularly those of in-service-teacher degree programs. 2. In terms of research goals, Taiwan’s music education research papers consisted of mainly applied research. 3. The descriptive research method was the most frequently used one for Taiwan’s music education research papers. 4. The proportion among various research paradigms involved in Taiwan’s music education research was averagely allocated. Qualitative, however, achieved higher growth rage. 5. Regarding research themes of Taiwan’s music education research, curriculum design was the most popular one. 6. Teachers topped others as research subjects in Taiwan’s music education research. 7. No significant differences were observed for research methods in Taiwan’s music education research. However, significant differences were found in their research goals, paradigms, themes and subjects. 8. Taiwan’s research showed growth in all content analysis categories; research methods, reseach themes and research subjects were found to become more diversified.
