Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣海洋大學 === 航運管理學系 === 94 === The concept of value of time (VOT) has been applied in transportation field for a long time, but little of the literature is related to freight. The ambiton of this thesis therefore is to derive empirical estimates of the valuation of transit time in the freight transport based on a model of Taiwan shippers’ behaviorur. Additionally, the thesis investigates the influences of transit time, fares, punctuality on the shipper’s behaviour. The present study consists of stated-preference (SP) data, discrete choice modeling and the amount of ‘willing to pay’ to improve service levels. The discrete choice model is employed to model the shopper’s choice among designed SP empirical options. The estimation results provide trade-off between transport time and transport costs, which in combination give the monetary values of transport time. The results indicate that the value of time for Taiwan shipper is 34.16 New Taiwan Dollar (NTD) per ton per day (per ton per hour 1.42 NTD). On the other hand the ‘willing to pay’ is 798.54 NTD per ton per day and ‘willing to accept’ is 1263.49 NTD per ton per day. All the information is helpful foe shipping liner operations such that they can use them as a market strategy reference in the future.
