One month later of this event, a typhoon invaded Taiwan. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of water quality of the Tanshui Estuary by this event by means of the nutrient study and to understand the dilution capacity of the storm after the typhoon. This knowledge can give us the information of how deleterious of the water quality, and seek the strategy to improve the situation. The water qualities of the Tanshui Estuary after the event were as follows: salinity,5.6-33.3 ; pH,7.74-8.23; dissolved oxygen,1.59-6.12 ml/L; total P,0.57-21.36 mM; silicate,4.67-219.39 mM; nitrate,0.17-2.77 mM; nitrite,0.04-1.44 mM ; and ammonia,< 0.1-287.28 mM。The maximum concentrations of phosphate、organic P and ammonia, and the lowest concentration of dissolved oxygen appeared at the Shy-Tzyg-Tour station along the estuarine axis. The anthropogenically chemical constitutes within the Tanshui Estuary have been significantly flushed out by storm after the typhoon invasion. The maximum concentrations of total P and ammonia were less than 3.5 mM and 60 mM, respectively, in the upper estuary. However, a higher concentration of ammonia still observed at the Tanshui
