Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 教育經營與管理研究所 === 94 === The purpose of this study was to explore the current situation and problems of supplementary education of elementary schools in Tainan County and City. According to the results, this study also could provide some suggestions for relative institutions.
Questionnaire survey and interview were adopted in this study. The questionnaire censused every teacher and higher class students in the school year of 2005 at Tainan County and City. The number of censused teacher and students were 83 and 394, respectively. Valid questionnaires of teacher were 75 with percentage of 90.36 %. Valid questionnaires of student were 363 with percentage of 92.13 %. The instrument was “Questionnaire of current situation and problems of supplementary education of elementary schools”. The data were statistically analyzed by frequency distribution, percentage and Chi-square test. The targets of interview were 4 teachers and 4 students.
According to the results, some conclusions were as follows:
1. Teachers and students inclined to “satisfied” on present elementary supplementary education, however, teachers believed that teaching materials, teaching equipments, learning conditions and guidance for the students could still be improved.
2. All of the teachers and students thought the major function of elementary supplementary education was “improving life knowledge such as application on scientific technology, language ability and society participation ability” as well as the second was “promoting students on elementary supplementary education and accelerating career development”.
3. The major problem on elementary supplementary education for teachers and students was “can not accommodate class due to work” as well as the second were “family reason of students” and “too many missing class of student”.
4. Teachers thought “Chinese class” was the most important course and “teaching in school” was the most helpful for students.
5. Most of the teachers thought adult education training was needed and also hoped educational administrative institution could handle some program for professional development and draft relative accommodation measures.
6. Teachers thought the most important improvement on administration and system of present elementary supplementary education was “hourly payment is too low” followed by “relative teaching equipment lack such as TV and PC” as well as “lack of support from administration”.
7. Teachers thought the most difficult thing on present courses was “the elementary supplementary education is a mixing class includes foreign mate and discontinue schooling students, the difference is too larger in levels and also is difficult on education” followed by “mathematic learning efficiency is bad” and “ratio of missing class is high and can not continue the course”.
8. Teachers thought the future planning of elementary supplementary education should enhance language ability course; course design should be live; increase information and music course; enforce knowledge of folks and feelings of the citizen for foreign mates and extend education time.
According to the conclusion, some suggestions were provided as follows:
1. Suggestion to the educational administration:
(1) Raising the budget of elementary supplementary education on adding hard and soft equipments as well as setting some rewards;
(2) Setting measures of foreign mate student counseling and enhancing adaptability on native life to eliminate the obstacle of education;
(3) Pursuing further education of teachers, setting rewards to enhance the professional knowledge of teachers.
2. Suggestions to schools and teachers
(1) To enhance the effectiveness of learning and to adapt the large differences on level of students, general discontinue schooling students and foreign mates should be divided into different class or adding special class for foreign mates to reflect the market needing.
(2) Setting pluralistic course needed for elementary supplementary student except regular basic courses.
