碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 教育測驗統計研究所 === 94 === Abstract The main purpose of this research is to develop a test of statistics basic concepts for elementary school students on the first stage of Grade 1-9 curriculum in math learning area. The researcher devises the statistics basic concepts into four sub-concepts and nine minor items based on references of the domestic and foreign studies and the present math curriculum of elementary school. The sub-concepts are collecting data, organizing and sorting data, presenting data, and interpreting data. The minor items are defining the scope of data, correspondence of data, counting data, sequence of data, sorting data, dissection of data, remaking data, tabulation of data, and reading and reporting data. A test of statistics basic concepts is thus developed according to the above sub-concepts and minor items. The research objects are selected from a population among the fourth graders of Nantou County elementary school students according to school sizes, which are defined as large, medium, and small clusters by using the method of stratified random sampling. Based on the statistical analyses, the test of statistics basic concepts has reached the criterions of a superior test inventory. The test difficulty, test discrimination, reliability and validity of this are appropriate and useful for measuring the statistics basic concepts of elementary school students. Moreover, the test outcome is significantly correlated to student gender and school size. Female students have better understanding than male students. The students of large and medium size school are doing better than those of small size school. There are some suggestions made according to the results above to be the references of teaching and curriculum design in the future.
