Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 教育測驗統計研究所 === 94 === The main purpose of this study was to investigate the development of pupils’ verbal comprehension ability. The pupils which studies in first grade in 2002 were involved to do a three-year longitudinal study.
The main points of this study were as following: First, realize the longitudinal development of pupils’ verbal comprehension ability. Second, analyze the effects of gender upon the development verbal comprehension ability. Third, understand how pupils’ family background influence their verbal comprehension ability.
The major findings included:
1. All pupils had progress in verbal comprehension ability at the second test. It meant that the elder the pupils got, the better their verbal comprehension ability grew.
2. There was low correlation (r= .27) between two tests held at different periods. It showed that the pupils’ verbal comprehension ability in first grade can’t predict correctly the one in fourth grade.
3. Pupils in different achievement groups had stable growth after three years, but the difference between these groups were obvious.
4. Males and females had progress at the second test. Females got better grades than males, but the difference was not obvious.
5. The study showed that parent’s educational background could forecast verbal comprehension ability; higher educational background was superior to lower educational background.
