碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 語文教育學系碩士班 === 95 === The Study on the Calligraphy of Yu Shi-Nan Abstract Yu Shi-Nan was known as one of the four great calligraphers during the Tang Dynasty, but the characteristics of his calligraphy theory and projects haven’t been well studied by the later generations. He is a multi-faceted and modest calligrapher .Therefore; his calligraphic achievement that was influenced by his family and the times is the main point of the study. The motivation and aim of the research are introduced in chapter one, and the research is analyzed by the history and the form. The analysis of external influence about his family traditions and background are described as six parts in chapter three. And the influence of Yu’s calligraphy tradition is discussed and explained in chapter four. The content and focus of Yu’s calligraphy theory are introduced in chapter five. The artistic characteristics of Yu’s calligraphy artistry are described in chapter six. And in chapter seven, the generalizations of those who were affected by Yu Shi-Nan are discussed. The conclusion of the research is integrated in chapter eight.
