Summary:碩士 === 國立台北護理學院 === 護理助產研究所 === 94 === This study aims at the exploration of the following content; it investigates the unexpected weaning experience and track of the multipara who initiate long-term breastfeeding for the first time, and it reveals the necessary faith and power to continue breastfeeding, and finally, it identifies the diverse meanings to those who have the two different experiences. The researcher adopts oral history and in-depth interview methodology. Six informants were interviewed, 2 to 3 times for each one, and 2 to 3 hours each time. The whole context was followed the guidelines and interviewees shared their experience of long-term breastfeeding and unexpected weaning. The result of this research verifies that informants are not reluctant to proceed to breastfeed, contrarily, misperception, and the climate of the society and lack of support lead to their decision of unexpected weaning. The burden of household duties and nursing makes them vacillate between breastfeeding and weaning. The long-term breastfeeding and nursing would have a great impact on their sexual life. In addition, the skin touch with the infants, the bonding between mother and baby, and support they received will strengthen their willingness to continue breastfeeding. The website of breastfeeding plays a main role of the important support system. The unique experience of proceed breastfeeding would have a positive effect on mothers’ personal development. The result of this research provides a helpful reference for the public policy maker in making the breastfeeding promotion program; furthermore, it can also give some directions for the nursing staff in practical care of multipara who are breastfeeding.
