The symptoms of patients include erythema chronicum migrans ( EM ) and acrodermatitis chronica atrophicus ( ACA ) on skin.Canine Ehrlichiosis is a tick-borne disease in dogs caused by Ehrlichia canis. The clinical signs include leucopenia、thrombocytopenia、fever、depression and anorexia. The purpose of this study is to investigate the epidemiology of above diseases in southern Taiwan and compare the specificity and sensitivity of detection using polymerase chain reaction ( PCR ) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay ( ELISA ). When blood samples of 480 dogs were detected using ELISA、73 were positive for Lyme disease ( 15.2%;73/480 ) and 99 were positive for CE using PCR. Both sensitivities of PCR were only positive for Borrelia burgodorferi. Similar results were demonstrated for Ehrlichia canis.
