As a consequence, almost every enterprise focuses their top priority on how to stay competitive and avoid being overwhelmed by their competitors in an age of ruthless and endless competitions, and similarly, this is true to port management industry. Besides, Port of Kaohsiung’s TEU on world ranking has dropped to 2005’s sixth place from 2001’s third place, which reveals that there are still lots of shortcomings to overcome. To help Port of Kaohsiung regain the competitiveness and euphoria it used to be proud of, the purpose of this research is focused to explore the various factors behind the successive decline and to work out feasible solutions to twist such an undesirable reality. In this research, the concept of “strategic groups” is adopted with the aid of statistic science to analyze the competitive factors among Port of Kaohsiung and its major counterparts. Elevating Port of Kaohsiung’s competitiveness and bringing up viable solutions are both the prime concerns of this research.
