Summary: | 碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 體育學系碩士班 === 94 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Qigong training on physiological indexes (blood pressure, heart rate, percent of body fat mass, flexibility, blood lipids and two types of stress hormone including cortisol and serotonin), and psychological indexes (depression, anxiety and sleeping quality) in patients with depression. There were 18 volunteers divided into exercise group (9 persons, 56.78±12.37years, 63.71±13.37kg, 158.44±6.82 cm) and control group (9 persons, 47.11±11.52years, 69.91±17.41kg, 163.22±9.86cm). The exercise group received a regular Qigong training 60 minutes a day, three days a week for twelve weeks. The control group did not participate in any physical training. All tests of the subjects were compared pre- and post 12-week training. Data were analyzed with two-way ANOVA mixed design and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient. Results were found as following :
1. Following 12-week Qigong training, the variables of blood pressure, heart rate, TC, TG, and flexibility improved significantly (p<.05) for the exercise group. Cortisol of exercise group showed a significant difference between pre- and post test (p<.05), but there were not significant differences in percent of body fat mass, HDL-C, LDL-C and serotonin. The levels of anxiety and depression were decreased, and sleeping quality was improved significantly (p<.05).
2. There were significant correlations between depression and anxiety (p<.05), sleeping quality (p<.05), and TC (p<.05) for the ratio of pre- and post tests. The anxiety was significantly correlated with sleeping quality (p<.05), heart rate (p<.05), cortisol (p<.05), TC (p<.05) and LDL-C (p<.05) with the ration of values.
The conclusions of this study were regarding two positive results for patients with depression. Taking Qigong training was not only enhancing the sleeping quality and alleviating anxiety, but also providing appropriate blood elements adjustment. In addition, Qigong training did help patients with improving their blood pressure and body flexibility. Therefore, for the perspective of treating patients with depression, we believe that taking Qigong training would be a key factor for healing purpose besides medication treatments.
