This study adopted an unequal pre-test and post-test experimental design and used fifth graders as the sample. They were administered “Meaning of Life Scale,” and 16 children were selected from them as the subjects of research. These 16 children were randomly assigned to either the experimental group or the control group. The children of the experimental group received 17 sessions of group counseling, and two sessions each week. The control group did not receive any treatment. This study used “Meaning of Life Scale” as the instrument, and the obtained data were tested with Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney to assess whether there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group obtained on the pre-test and post test scales. At the same time, the researcher conducted analysis of the group process records, interview and the feedback by the participants so as to further investigate into the effect of the application of life education group counseling. The major findings of this study were described as follows: 1.The life education group counseling showed significant, immediate and follow-up effects on improving meaning of life of experimental group in the total “Meaning of Life Scale” and in “The Will to Meaning Sub-Scale,” “Attitude of Living and Life of self-decision Sub-Scale,” “Acceptance of Trials and Death Sub-Scale,” and “Existential Vacuum Sub-Scale.” 2.There were positive effects on life education group counseling in experimental group. Most members felt more confident in themselves and wanted to make themselves better. They knew how to cherish their lives, and make use of their lives. They were not afraid of death and can face their frustrations and adversity more bravely. 3.During the process of experiment, the group cohesiveness, the liberal attitude of researcher, the positive feedback from leader and members, the attractive program of life education group counseling, the audio visuals, and the utilizing of children’s books were helping in making the counseling more effective. Finally, the results and the suggestions of the research provided teachers in the elementary school with implements to practice life education group counseling and to take advantage of them as reference for further studies.
