碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 教育學系 === 94 === The purpose of this research is to understand the present state of relationship between the meaning in life and attitudes toward death of retired elementary teachers in Pingtung and to analyze the connection between background variable of retired teachers and their attitudes toward life meanings and death. At last, it will also discuss the relationship between the meaning in life and attitudes toward death. This study took 817 retired elementary teachers in Pingtung as participants in fives years from 2001 to 2005 school semester. And information data has been collected by survey research. The results reveal that retired elementary teachers held higher evaluations toward the life meaning and value in life, and they also have higher cognition and expectation toward life. On the attitudes toward death, retired teachers have more positive knowing and less fear to face it. The results also predict that there is strong correlation between life meaning and attitude toward death, and there is typical correlation of the two variables. Besides, the background variable and life meaning have predictive function toward the death attitudes of retired teachers. At last, based on the discussion and conclusion of this study, it provides suggestions and recommendation for the family members of the retired elementary teachers in Pingtung to follow and even the future researching. I. Suggestions for retired elementary teachers in Pingtung 1. To participate in religious activities can evaluate and comfort the mind and the soul. 2. Pay attention to personal health and rehabilitation to keep the body in good condition. 3. To face the marriage carefully and manage to cooperate with the spouse. 4. Respect the concept of gender equality to create a peaceful ambidextrous society. 5. To integrate life process actively and explore the meaning in life, and take positive attitude toward death. 6. To be engaged in social or volunteering activities and carry out the government policy of “ Retired Elites Re-sparkle. ” II. Suggestions for family members of retired elementary teachers 1. Be concern about retired parents’ life condition, and properly arrange their living bag. 2. To value and take responsibility to maintain life heritage.
