The attitudes of students majoring in special education from NationalNormal Universities toward individuals with disabilities：A conjoint analysis

碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 特殊教育學系 === 94 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the attitudes of students majoring in special education from National Taiwan Normal University , National Changhua University of Education and National Kaohsiung Normal University toward individuals with disabilities. The participants majoring in non-special education from three National Normal Universities were also enrolled as the controlled group. Five hundred fourteen college students majoring in special education and four hundred fifteen college students majoring in non-special education participated in the study. The conjoint analysis method was used to develop 16 case sets to investigate students’ preference orderings and the relative importance of five attributes of people with disabilities（disability types, independent living skills, gender, employment status and history of aggressive behavior）. Conjoint analysis, t test and ANOVA were used to analyze the data in this study. The major findings were summarized as follows: 1. Correlation was found significant among ranking of 16 case sets in a questionnaire between students majoring in special education and non-special education. 2. The individuals who are female, more independent, employed, with no history of aggression behavior were preferred by students majoring in special education and non-special education. 3. Students’ preference orderings of individuals with disabilities were found as follows:（1）visual impairment and physical disability were preferred by the freshmen and sophomores and no practical training experiences majoring in special education and students majoring in non-special education,（2）visual impairment and mental retardation were preferred by the juniors and seniors and having practical training experiences majoring in special education, and （3）psychiatric disability were not preferred by students majoring in special education and non-special education. 4. The relative importance of five attributes of individuals with disabilities in order across all students majoring in special education and non-special education were disability types, independent living skills, history of aggressive behavior, employment status and gender. 5. The relative importance values of aggressive behavior history tended to become lower in students who had had more special education courses and practical training experiences.
