Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 英語學系 === 94 === Robert Frost is the most celebrated poet in the twentieth
century. His poems are loved by all ages of people and often
begin in delight and end in wisdom. Here I will cite the
Buddhist ideas in his selected poems.
In Chapter One, I introduce meditation in Buddhism and some
main concepts of Buddhism like impermanence, no self, hatred, hostility, and ignorance to specify the complicated terms.
In Chapter Two, I compare the meditation in Buddhism and in
Frost’s poems and get the similarities between them.
In Chapter Three, I find “ impermanence” in Buddhism and
Frost’s poem “ Nothing Gold can Stay.” and conclude the nature
of impermanence in the universe.
In Chapter Four, I cite the importance of practice of “ the
transformed mind” in Buddhism and in Frost’s poem “ Dust of Snow.”
Mind in mental to humans, so how to tame it and change it is vital.
Moreover, I note the ignorance of humans in Frost’s poem “ A Passing Glimpse.” Ignorance is a great hindrance to humans and should be corrected by avoiding repeated mistakes.
In Chapter Five, I make a conclusion of all the ideas in
Buddhism and Robert Frost’s poems. I find great wisdom in
both of them.
