Summary: | 碩士 === 南華大學 === 生死學研究所 === 94 === The objective of this study was to explore the meaning of life in the parents of elementary school students in both special-class and regular-class. We analyzed broad conditions which might lead the different meaning of life, including individual background parameters, family condition parameters, and environmental parameters. With this study, we had thoroughly understood the meaning of life in special-class parents at elementary schools, which could provide concrete suggestions for educational practices on providing educational and psychological consultation for related cases.
We conducted this study with specialized designed questionnaires for parents of both special-class and regular-class sampled from elementary schools in Yunlin County. We got 247 effective samples. Our research scheme is mainly based on “The Meaning of Life Measure Form in Elementary School Parents”, and the data were analyzed using Descriptive Statistics, and independent samples one-way MANOVA.
Our results are summarized as follows:
1.The meaning of life for regular-class parents at elementary schools are generally higher (i.e., more meaningful) than special-class parents.
2.For individual background parameters for both special-class parents and regular-class parents, the difference on the meaning of life can be observed on different age levels (31-40).
3.For different family condition parameters for both special-class parents and regular-class parents, the differences on the meaning of life could be observed on the society economic status (low), marriage status (double-parent family) and financial situation (average).
4.For different environment parameters for both special-class parents and regular-class parents, the differences on the meaning of life could be observed on the experiences of family member passing away (never and at least once), the way of openly discussing death topic in the family (openly).
5.The meaning of life among elementary school parents were influenced by individual background parameters, family condition parameters, and environment parameters.
The contribution of our study could provide constructive suggestions for parents, educational organization, educational sector of government, and researchers as a reference for further study.
