Abstract
The main purpose of this research was to study the influence of inbalanced male and female proportion in the elementary school on organization operation. Three main ideas were listed below. Firstly, understand the nowaday situation of this issue. Secondly, analyze the differences between background variety and enviromental variety. Thirdly, provide suggestions for future educational strategies and further study.
The methodology of this research incorporated literature analysis, questionaire and interview. The sample was drawn from 34 schools, 508 teachers in Hsien-chu city and county. The valid sample was 441 in total. Instrument was self-designed “The questionaire about influence of inbalanced male and female teacher proportion in elementary school on organization operation”. The obtained data were analyzed by t-test and one-way ANOVA. Moreover, 14 interviewees were selected for detailed interview.
The main findings were as follows:
1.No significant influence of inbalanced male and female teachers in elementary school on organization operation.
2.Refering to background variety toward this issue, gender, age and job position reach the significant difference;however, educational background and seniority shown no significant difference.
3.Refering to environment variey toward this issue, signifiant difference only shown in different city and county, but neither on school size nor on school district.
4.Most interviewees remarked that less male teachers infected more on the arrangement of Dean of student affairs and high-grade tutors than the entire school operation.
5.Inbalanced male and female teacher percentage might have profound influence on students’ gender-identification.
6.Even though balanced male and female teacher percentage might provide a better quality educational environment for students, expertise has priority over gender.
The suggestions drawn from this research were as follows:
1.Encourage more male teachers devoting into the elementary school. For example, raise the salary, reward or praise the outstanding teachers.
2.Increase the opportunity for fostering male teachers by means of providing more sholarship.
3.Carry out the gender equality concept. Expertise has priority over gender.
4.Reinforce family function by providing effective parental training courses. Students could have a better gender identification by means of their well-functional families.
5.Banish sex ideology. Create a cooperative school environment for different sex.
6.Strengthen professional knowledge and promote expertise. Make self to be a whole-function teacher.
7.Other concrete suggestions toward research objects, methodology and research instruments were also listed for further study or reference.
