Compressed video bitstream is sensitive to channel errors that may lead to information loss due to the congestion. Such loss further results in a serious error propagation problem especially when using motion compensated prediction processing. Therefore, many techniques have been developed to combat the effects of channel error on transmitted video. Our method aims on the error concealment which conceals the lost data using the spatial and temporal correlation at the decoder. In this thesis, we use the neighboring MB information to conceal the lost MB. According to encoding mode of the neighboring MB’s, we apply different concealment algorithms. And then, the motion vectors of neighboring blocks are combined as a refinement set to obtain more precise motion vector for lost block. Since our proposed algorithm utilizes the information of neighboring correct blocks and recursively refines the video data, it can also solve the large scale erroneous area that caused by the burst error. Simulation results show the subjective and objective performances of the proposed algorithm are superior to conventional temporal concealment methods for H.264 standard.
