The reason is the breakthroughs in semiconductor and wireless technology, so that the size of RFID devices could be reduced within a small space. Thus for different application scenarios, RFID devices could be redesigned as various forms or behaviors to adapt. The more added values provided by the RFID characteristic, the better RFID applications are expected to compete with bar-code system in the future. The EPCglobal system model came from MIT was designed for linking all physical RFID objects together to carry out various enterprise applications. One of the major applications in Electronic Product Code (EPC) network is the Object Naming Service (ONS) which provides the querying and tracking services of RFID objects. However, there are still numerous related issues since EPCglobal is in progress and does not become a completed persistent system yet. Many RFID projects of non-EPC system were announced for its research results worldwide. In the majority, the researches about RFID system focus on the design of the abstract system functions. In respect of the planning of the network architecture in RFID system, only a few researches mentioned it. In fact, the network architecture of RFID system has an effect on the operating performance of whole system, as well the system scalability. The related researches about RFID system architecture could be compressed into a simple bridge-based network system and the gateway-based one. This thesis considers a scenario for RFID object tracking system, designs a hierarchical RFID network system, and references other RFID system architecture to evaluate the operating performance in each model. The valuation of integrating IPv6 in RFID application system is discussed as well. The results of performance evaluation and experimental simulation show that the system network loading is reduced 41.8% and the database system loading is reduced 83.2% in proposed hierarchical RFID network system. It could be proved that the operation of RFID object tracking over the hierarchical network system architecture performs high efficiency and has well scalability.
