This study is generated from the researcher who found that some students had problems to make creative artworks in their drawing activities. The researcher is therefore intended to develop an art curriculum which could be useful to stimulate students’ creative thinking. This study is aimed at applying creative thinking strategies to picture-story book making for upper graders in an elementary school in Taipei City. Its purpose is to understand is to understand the outcome of the implement, the difficulties of the development, and solution for these difficulties. Moreover, the researcher is in the hope of gaining new professional knowledge through the process.
The teaching of the unite look place in a 6th-grade class at Ming Hu elementary school from May to June 2005. During this period,research data were gathered from the researcher’s personal participations, observations, and interviews. These research data is also used to help the researcher to adjust the teaching and interaction with the students. After a thorough analysis,findings of this research are listed in the following conclusions:
(1)The researcher applied creative thinking teaching strategies:attributive listing technique、forced thinking-organization、brainstorming、tolerance for ambiguity、adjustment to development、reversedt creative writing skill, visualization skill hinting and examples of habit accommodate the procedure:arouse motive、channel the fantasy into protagonist、division discussing、create illustration、channel the fantasy into story、creative story-picture books in story-picture books creation class。
(2) The goal of the creative thinking teaching strategies in the story-picture creation class is to let students easily get involved in the content of story-picture books based on the references for painting and opposition conceiving thru the process of creation; furthermore, to let students find out the problem they might encounter in the process, and solve the problem with their creative ability in order to create an unique work to express one’s emotion, thinking, concept and style. At the same time, students have to learn how to appreciate others’ work, interpret the value of others’ work into words, and accepting other’s opinions.
(3) Through the teaching methods applying creation thinking to picture-story book making, students can be easily involved in the content of painting and composition , mainly because of having references for painting and composion conceiving when in creation. In addition, during the courses, students show intense interests and have fun in learning.
(4) Creative-thinking teaching stragies increases the interaction between students and teachers, and enhances students’ motivation of study and thinking, and firmly cultivates the students’ abilities of creative thinking.
(5)To boost the student’s creative-thinking ability and approaching to the purpose of subjects,develop a well-planned curriculum and activities and emphasize the teacher’s academic profession and ability of self-inspection are suggested.
Finally, the findings and conclusion in this research bring out concrete and feasible suggestions on course design, teaching and future research as references for relevant teaching and research departments.
