Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 特殊教育學系所 === 94 === A Study on the Vocational Adjustment Variables for the Mentally Retarded Secondary Graduates Advisor:Dr. Tair-jye Chou Advisee:Bee-yun Hsu Abstract The study aims at investigating the employment outcome of the mentally retarded secondary graduates and predicting the valid vocational adjustment variables. The population of this research includes 104 mentally retarded secondary graduates, 79 male and 25 female, who graduated from National Chia-Yi School for the Mentally Retarded, National Yunlin Special Education School and National Tainan Qi-Zhi School in the 91st, 92nd and 93rd academic year respectively. The target population has to fill all requirements, which they have to adapt themselves to the competitive jobs(not including sheltered workshops), stick to the jobs well or work on stable jobs for more than six months. The research tool used is the Questionnaires. The data gained from this research are analyzed by means of frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation and multiple stepwise regressions. The main conclusions are as follows: 1. The employment rate for the graduates coming from my sample is 26.3%. Most graduates are employees of private enterprises. The jobs which are engaged by the graduates mostly are car-washing and assemblage. The average income is lower than NTD.15,000 per month. Most of the employers didn’t accept government subsidies for hiring the handicaps. 2. All the graduates can express 64.4% satisfaction with their performance on the job. There is 58.7% satisfaction expressed by the parents at the graduate’s performance on the job. The satisfaction is 51.9% expressed by the employer at the graduate’s performance on the job. The satisfaction with the vocational adjustment reaches 49%. 3. There are significant correlations between the following variables and target index. The variables are that(A) what degree of disability graduates being categorized and (B) support offered by the family, the school counselor, the employment counselor and the employer. The target index are satisfaction expressed by the graduate at his performance on the job; vocational adjustment; satisfaction expressed by the parents at the graduate’s performance on the job and satisfaction expressed by the employer at the graduate’s performance on the job 4. There is no significant correlation between the variables and the target index(satisfaction expressed by the graduate at his performance on the job; satisfaction expressed by the parents at the graduate’s performance on the job; satisfaction expressed by the employer at the graduate’s performance on the job and vocational adjustment). The variables are the graduate’s gender, the graduate’s concomitant disability; the graduate’s transporting ability, the family social- economic status and hiring subsidy policy. 5. There are significant correlation between sufficient support and great satisfaction. According to the study results, if the school counselor and the employer can offer the graduate with sufficient support, not only the graduate, the family and the employer can express their satisfaction at the graduate’s performance on the job, but the graduates’ vocational adjustment can also be well-developed. 6. There are two valid factors for making sure that the graduate can satisfy with his own job. One is the support which are offered by the employer and the family. Another would be the graduates’ disability which is categorized as moderate. 7. There are three valid factors for ensuring parents can satisfy with their children’s performance on the jobs. They are support offered by the family, family social-economic status and support offered by the employer. 8. Sufficient support offered by the employer and developed transportation ability from the graduates are two important factors for ensuring that the employer can satisfy with the graduate’s performance. 9. There are four important factors ensuring the graduates’ vocational adjustment is full-fledged. They are sufficient support offered by the employer and the family. The others are developed transportation ability from the graduates and moderate disability which the graduate being categorized. Key words:mental retardation, vocational adjustment
