碩士 === 國立彰化師範大學 === 特殊教育學系所 === 94 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the implementation of the inclusive education for self-contained classes for mental retardation in junior high schools in Taichung County. Data were collected through interviewing thirteen teachers teaching in the self-contained classes for mental retardation in junior high schools. The results indicate three ways to implement the inclusive education for self-contained classes for mental retardation. First of all, to participate the activities of the school, however, the retarded students often play the role of spectators, not the participants, in most activities; second, to hold inclusive activities designed by special education teachers. These inclusive activities can provide more chances for the students studied in the self-contained classes for mental retardation to get along with their non-disabled peers. Third, let the retarded students learn with the non-disabled peers in some regular courses, such as physical education. Special education teachers think that the inclusive education of self-contained classes for mental retardation is necessary, because the students studied in the self-contained classes for mental retardation can learn more by getting along with others and feel that they aren’t different from others, and so can their non-disabled peers. Recommendations and future research for improving the inclusive education for self-contained classes for mental retardation are also provided.
