ABSTRACT
Recently, The use of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to menopause women has received much attention both in medical and health research, however, the effects of HRT on menopause women remains controversial. The purpose of this study was to empirically examined whether the use of a Chinese regimen, Ba-Gua-Zhang, may bring positive effects on menopause women. This study adopted both qualitative and quantitative approaches to four menopause women who lived in suburban of Taipei with 5 months of Ba-Gua-Zhang interventions. By analyzing blood biochemical changes, interview data, Profile of Mood States (POMS) scores as well as participants’ field notes, this study found the following results:
1.The five months of Ba-Gua-Zhang interventions enhanced participants’ E 2, and PRG.
2.The five months of Ba-Gua-Zhang interventions improved participants’ physical discomforts as well as mood disturbance.
3.Participants felt cognitive and affective improvement through physical activity of Ba-Gua-Zhang.
4.The personality of participants changed slightly after five months of Ba-Gua-Zhang interventions.
5.The two elements of Ba-Gua-Zhang interventions – “ deliberately imitate the physical movements” and “ feel the internal changes” affect participants’ feeling of relax.
This study concluded that involving in the long term Ba-Gua Zhang, may bring positive effects on menopause women and suggested that future study may examine what mechanism bring such effects.
