Summary: | 碩士 === 國立暨南國際大學 === 通訊工程研究所 === 94 === We study in this thesis the medium access control (MAC) of the 802.16 network that is composed of several 802.11 subnetworks. The access scheme of 802.11 is CSMA/CA and that of 802.16 is scheduling. These two schemes are quite different in natures, the former is contention based and the latter is contentionless. When users of the 802.11 subnetwork set up connections that need to go through the 802.16 network, they encounter both these two access scheme. We analyze the delay and throughput for the concatenation of CSMA/CA and scheduling by simulation an experimental network. Numerical results show that the 802.11 subnetwork is the bottleneck for the entire network. We also use the error control scheme to improve the performance. It is found that the hybrid ARQ can effectively reduce the delay and increase the throughput.
