Abstract
The purpose of the study is to compare teacher assessment mechanism of compulsory education between Taiwan and USA. First, to understand praxis in teacher assessment of compulsory education between Taiwan and USA. Second, to compare the similarities and differences in teacher assessment mechanism of compulsory education between Taiwan and USA. Third, based on the revealed findinds, to propose suggestions related to the teacher assessment of compulsory education in Taiwan in the future.
This study, by adopting comparative research method developed by G. Z. F. Bereday, has led to following conclusions.
1. At present, the teacher assessment in Taiwan is still under the stage of initiation while it gets maturely in USA.
2.The similarities and differences:
˙The similarities
(1)Both of developments go with the trend of social changes.
(2)Teacher's professional development and promoting students’ effectiveness by improving teaching methods are the main focus.
(3)Make the criterions of the teacher assessment flexible.
(4)The assessment materials are collected diversely.
˙The differences
(1) The teacher assessment in Taiwan is still under the stage of initiation while it gets maturely in USA.
(2)The mechanism in Taiwan needs its legalization while it has on the way of legal route in USA.
(3)It lacks for a complete and related set of teacher assessment in Taiwan, which USA has its totally opposite performance.
(4)It is under the evaluation of systematization in Taiwan and USA has already taken the benefits and looked for more innovations of it.
