Besides, by virtue of high-speed camera, the distribution of volume density of granular material is measured for getting more information about distribution of volume density of granular material under different vibration intensity. Mono-disperse spherical glass beads ( = 1 or 3 mm) were confined to a plexi-glass tube vertically mounted on a hydraulic system which provided sinusoidal, vertical vibrations. The vibration intensity was varied by changing the amplitude z at fixed frequency f. A series of experiments were designed to observe the reversibility in the packing of granular material by different series of vibration intensity. Furthermore, the volume fraction distribution of the granular material along the tube was observed subjected to different vibration intensity. By means of geometry and statistics the a so-called “characteristic depth” was measured.
