As a result, the networks in urban cities are over-congested during both morning and evening commuting periods. The traffic congestion problem is even worsening in the last decade due to insufficient land areas and saturated urban roads. Therefore, how to suppress the use of private modes and promote the use of public transportation is an important issue the government would like to deal with. Various strategies of TDM (Transportation Demand Management), including inducements and restrictions, have been applied to alleviate traffic congestion in many countries. Road pricing, one strategy of TDM, tries to reform travelers’ behavior in a long run. Road pricing which controls traffic volumes by charging extra money to private modes can relieve congestion and evenly distribute traffic flows to alternative routes. Three road pricing schemes, proposed or implemented in other countries, are applied in this study. They are one fare pricing, credit-based pricing, and differential pricing (peak and off peak). The Computer-Aided Survey is conducted in both Taipei Xinyi Planning Area and Neihu Technology Park to obtain commuters’ information including socioeconomic characteristics, travel characteristics, attitudes on different schemes, and attitudes on incentive alternatives. The information is then used to investigate the important and significant attributes that affect the acceptance of different road pricing schemes and the modal choice behavior for private commuters. The results of this study can provide valuable insights into road pricing strategies to be regulated and implemented in the future. Rong-Chang Jou Yu-Hsin Liu 周榮昌 劉祐興 2006 學位論文 ; thesis 91 zh-TW
