| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 台灣文學研究所 === 94 === This thesis is a comprehensive survey of Nakayama Susumu who was an author, playwright, journalist and broadcaster during the Japanese Colonial Period in Taiwan. Nakayama’s father came to Taiwan for his work in the early colonial period. As a foreigner, Nakayama was born and raised in Taiwan, people called that “Wansei”(灣生). During his early years, he had certain expectations about where his home country, but as time went by he started to think of Taiwan as his adopted home. Seeing the lack of resources in Taiwan’s cultural, he was devoted to establish many art-related activities, also to publish magazines. When Nakayama stayed in Tokyo to help promoting proletarian children’s education, he realized the importance of having a knowledgeable audience and how essential it was to cultivate artistry in Taiwan’s general public. His idea of building an artistic environment, having more Taiwanese people to experience the artistic cultural scene promoted the development of Taiwan’s own culture. During World War II, Japanese government started to be aware of the importance of cultural cultivation, and heavily advertised on it. Nakayama had since been confirmed about his leadership, and he was responsible for a lot of important assignments. Following the national policy of emphasizing local culture, his works reflected these colors that had also been alluring for the general audiences.
The purpose of this thesis is to try to introduce his thoughts, artistry and works into a discussion of a colonial background.
