Rivers lying in a city influence its development. And along the riverside, there forms specific open space. Love River can be regarded as a living historical record of Kaohsiung, which is closely related to its development. Therefore, the river could be said as a historical symbol of Kaohsiung’s development. Since the first beginning, there have lived large amounts of people along it. Thus, riverfronts formed in historical context show abundant diversity. The buildings of the riverfront represent various styles and features, and reflect the transition of the riverfront. The role of Love River in Kaohsiung’s developing process is also interpreted. This research, which is about the spatial relationship in the urban riverfront, is based on methods of literature review and field observation, and sets up the theory structure by applying theories and cases of waterfront. Then, the transition course that attempts from Kaohsiung Love River, probe into urban riverfront from prosperity, decline to a recycled one with developing stage, correspondent to the phenomenon of the riverfront under the external factor and influence of the rivers function, and analyze the relation of space and water further. Studying the riverfront of Kaohsiung Love River changes under the transition of the urban river. In the case study of Kaohsiung Love River, the space has verified the relations between people and water. Changing the relations form altering space phenomena, and influence the appearances of the urban riverfront. As people ponder over urban rivers, face in way, there are brand-new appearances in aspects of site location, function, interface, surrounding environment, activity, and model of using water. By comparing the past riverfront to nowadays in the dimension of relations among people, water, and space, the change of relations can be verified. Chao-Ching Fu 傅朝卿 2006 學位論文 ; thesis 193 zh-TW
