In order to set up the vehicle–tack coupling system, this research is aimed at the geometric relation of wheel-rail contact and sets up the wheel-rail coupling equation to find out the wheel-rail contact point and contact angle. Contact points form the line with lateral displacement in the space. The line can be called wheel-rail contact trajectory line. Contact trajectory line varies from the motion of axletree centroid. So that, this research analyzes the contact trajectory line variations with the yaw of axletree centroid.
In order to accord with the real application of wheel and track, this research uses the commonly cone steel wheel, international standard rail UIC60, and Japanese rail JIS60. It analyzes the changes of contact point and angle on these rail types. These results evidence against that contact points almost happen in the same location regardless of wheel movement. The inclination of rail determines the location.
