The rural village houses confront a renewing dilemma through both the testing of severe time and the impact of the 921 earthquake. Through the Acts of Kyoto Protocol, a brand new selection of building materials brought to the Taiwan builders as fronting the requirement of high-quality and humanized life space as well as displaying the characters of local natural, history, and artificial scenery.
This research integrated urban renewal theories, Urban Planning Act, and Building Code to define the title of Taiwan rural housing renewal. The data collected from governmental statistics of specified counties and cities, Construction and Planning Agency, National Statistics which laid as the basis of calculation for per person average dwelling floor area growth rate and population growth rate. The building floor area requires 41,283,645m2 as apply renovation or renew for rural houses in a 5-year period since 2004 till 2009. According to the life cycle of building theory to calculate an essential quantity of 20-year house renovation as require floor renovation. To calculate the ratios of rural new houses’ floor area in 1985 and total floor area of rural houses in 2004 indicate that the building materials of rural houses confront renovation at the basis of life cycle is 41,036,591 m2. There are total 82,275,236 m2 of rural house floor area requires renovation at the period of 2004 to 2009.
Not only a potential 200.9 billions N.T.D value on wooden building material one year revealed by the requirement for rural houses renovation until 2009; but also a positive developments for environmental energy waste, cost benefit, and dwelling health condition. Regarding to the conclusion, nothing but any other materials can replace of wooden building material as developing a local character and its consistent development on Taiwan rural houses of future trend.
