The Taiwan community colleges have no degree system to attract adult learners to participate learning. Therefore, a participant must rely on his/her pure learning motives to continue to pursue the learning. This research pays attention to a learner’s motive of participating in community college’s academic curriculum. This research uses semi-structured interview to carry out the investigation. The main objective is to analyze and discuss individual motive drives in detail. Findings out are concluded as follows:
First, adult learning motive of participating in community college academic curriculum include self-development, cognitive interests, social contact, and occupational progression. The influential factors include the needs, attitudes, stimulation, affect, competence, reinforcement, important others influences, and the anticipated benefits and the barriers.
Second, the continuous learning motive of learners in community college’s academic curriculum consists of social contact and cognitive interests. The influential factors include the attitudes towards education, achievement of the important goal through participation, and the anticipated benefits, important others influences, barriers as well as the information and so on.
Last, the learning motive of a learner reenters or continues learning in community college’s academic curriculum includes the self- development and cognitive interests. Affecting factors of the learning motive comprise the life transformation, information, opportunity, important others influences, affective feelings, achievement of the important goal through participation and expection.
