Complex extracted from Polygonum Chinensis L. which has been used by Taiwanese folk to heal wound skin externally. 2. Mixture of Rhein and Emodin simulating the active and toxic compounds contained in Polygonum Multiflorum Thunb. which has been used by Chinese medicinal doctors for oral applications internally. Aqueous acetic acid generates the best extract results better than water and ethanol for Polygonum Chinensis L.. The stability of natural extract was checked by kinetic studies performed under elevated temperature (47oC : higher than room and body temperature) and the results show that it is quite stable. Some degradation can only be observed by forced degradation with strong oxidizing reagent. Among the three materials tested, silica-gel C8 gave the best attachment result with the extracted complex of Polygonum Chinensis L.. Hence the matrix of silica-gel C8 attached by natural medicinal complex was further checked against the extracted complex without any attachment for its trans-dermal releasing rate. The former one generated a trans-dermal rate of 64.5% in 4 hours already. The trans-dermal rate for the latter one was only 26.9% in 4 hours (i.e. 37.6% less than the former one). The main purpose of second application for this research is to improve the traditional detoxification process by using scientific materials and methods. This study demonstrates all three silica-gel based materials can do better and quicker job than the traditional detoxification. The attachment rate for Rhein is 77.3% with silica-gel CN, 71.3% with silica-gel C8 and 52.5% with silica-gel at second hour. Furthermore, silica-gel CN has the best attachment with Rhein and least absorption of Emodin (less than 10%) from 2 to 4 hours steadily. Therefore among the three scientific materials, silica-gel CN is the best for removing toxic substance while retaining active compound without degradation.
