The relationship between English reading motivation and text comprehension among university students in Taiwan

碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 應用英語學系碩士班 === 94 === This study is to investigate the orientation of English reading motivation, trying to find major motivation factors that affect Taiwan students, and seeking the correlation among those factors and with text comprehension. The subjects were respectively, 105 students from the technological university and 117 students from the general university. The measures for this study included a questionnaire for investigating the subjects’ English reading motivation and a GEPT reading comprehension test for investigating students’ text comprehension. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, the exploratory factor analysis, and Pearson product-moment correlation analysis. The study found the technological university (non-English major) students seemed demonstrated Preference for Challenge while the general university (English major) students demonstrated Curiosity in reading. Furthermore, the study revealed that only students'' social factor was related to their reading comprehension in both technological university and general university.
