No matter what type of LCD, the Color Filter (CF) is required and is used to provide color-display function. Therefore, CF is one of the key components to the LCD. The manufacturing processes of CF are very complicated and repetitive. The processes include Cleaning, Coating, Exposure, Development, Sputtering and Etching. However, huge amount of solvents and chemicals are required during each manufacturing processes, the potential risks and their impacts to the environment are significant and worth to be discussed. The subjects of this study are the manufacturing and R&D departments in a local LCD Color Filter material factory. The Semi-quantitative Risk Assessment – Job Safety Analysis (JSA) method was applied to identify and analyze hazard factor for staff, facilities, materials and environment that involved in the critical processes. Moreover, the Risk Matrix was employed to evaluate the degree of risks. We hope that the result could be improved the performance in operation safety and risk reduction. The research result shows that the major hazards in the manufacturing processes include physical hazard (47.1%), and the secondary hazard is ergonomic stresses (21.7%). The manufacturing processes risk distribution from high to low is: low risk (50.6%), normal risk (28.4%), high risk (10.9%) and moderate risk (10.1%). This analysis result matches with actual operation record. This result can not only evaluate the feasibility of risk assessment application, but also act as the reference for improving health and safety of correlation industries operation environment and loss control.
