This plant is also one of medicine in Taiwan. In a previous study, 23 components from the whole plant of Tubocapsicum anomalum (Franch. & Sav.)Makino had isolated, and their bioactivity were disclosed. In the current investigation, twenty two compounds were isolated from the roots of this plant, including twenty withanolides:tubocapsenolide A (1), tubocapsanolide A (2), 23-hydroxytubocapsanolide A (3), tubocapsanolide F (4), 20-hydroxytubocapsanolide A (5), 17??-hydroxywithanolide D (6), withanolide D (7), tubocapsenolide D (8), tubocapsanolide B(9), tubocapsanolide G (10), iso-tubocapsanolide G (11), 20-hydroxy tubocapsanolide G (12), tubocapsanolide H (13), 2,3-dihydro- 17??-hydroxywithanolide D (14), 24,25-dihydrowithanicandrin (15), withanolide A (16), 23-hydroxytubocapsenolide F (17), anomanolide A(18), 17-epiacnistin A (19) and anomanolide F (20); two steroids:the mixture of ?nβ-stiosterol(21) and stigamsterol(22), and the mixture of β-sitosteryl-3-O-β-D-glucoside(23) and stigmasteryl-3-O-β-D-glucoside(24). Among them, 3~5, 10~15, 17, and 20 are new compounds. Compounds 6, 7, 16, and 19, were found for the first time from the genus of Tubocapsicum. The structures of these compounds were identified by spectroscopic and mass data. The cytotoxicity assay indicated that these withanolides exhibited significant cytotoxicity toward liver cancer cell lines(Hep 3B、Hep G2) 、lung cancer cell line(A549) and breast cancer cell lines(MDA-MB-231、MCF 7).
