The types of mechanisms are limited to four-bar linkages and these mechanisms posesse the requirement of path generation. By the method of function equivalence, various kinds of four-bar linkage are synthesized to replace existing mechanims with unsatisfactory requirements. Firstly, using planar lower pairs constucts all types of four-bar linkage and the systhesis equations of three kinds of dyad for path generation are derived. By connecting two dayds as a four-bar linkage and applying the synthesis equations of dyads, various mechanisms with equivalent function-generation are synthesized. For the synthesized equivalent mechanisms, position analysis, drawing of mechanisms, and kinamatic modeling are provieded. Furthermore, comparing the dimensions of equivalent mechanisms and the features of the coupler curves obtains the characteristics and the differences between these equivalent mechansisms. Finally, applying AutoCAD software, Visual LISP language, and dialogoue control language, the design program of equivalent mechanisms is achieved. In the design program, the user must input specified conditions and selected parameters for the desired mechanisms and the program will automatically output the dimensions of mechanisms and their drawings.
