Summary: | 碩士 === 華梵大學 === 工業設計系碩士班 === 95 === The purpose of this study is to evaluate and explore the visual comfort appreciation and the influential factors of web pages. Factors that would influence the visual comfort were first specified through literature review and think aloud methodology. Such factors include the layout, hyper links, colors, white space amount, and iconic graphics. According to the result of the pilot test, 15 questions were offered to evaluate the degree of visual comfort of web page design.
From factor analysis and regression analysis, the following conclusions have been found:
1. The factors affecting visual comfort of web page design can be reduced to three principal components: the layout design factor, the color design factor, and the information design factor. These factors have positive relationships with the degree of visual comfort appreciation. Among them, the layout design factor has the highest correlation coefficient (Beta=0.820); the color design the second (Beta=0.369) and the information design factor the least (Beta=0.167).
2. The result of a five-scaled semantic differential experiment demonstrates that, among 12 representative web page samples, the typical samples, those with highest and least degrees of visual comfort, reflect that (1) the best proportion of graphics to texts is 3:1, which will make it more comfortable for users to browse through the web pages; (2) the addition of a background block to the text will make it look like a graphic object; (3) the change of font will help catch the user’s eyes; (4) when there are more colors, the harmony among colors should be paid attention to; (5) when the tone of the background is too similar to that of the foreground, the main thesis cannot stand out; (6) the visual balance of the total composition lies in the center, which helps gather the user’s focus; (7) the white space amount is best to be 50%; (8) when the color is too similar to the background, the total image tends to be too spacious due to the increase of white space amount.
