Abstract:
Strides into the 21st century, people are even more relying on the technology, this especially reflected on the information storage demand, example: desktop computer, NB, game, digital camera, internet network, DVD, MP3, information processor, PDA, handsets and soon has shown the importance of data storage. Among all hard disk takes the leading in data storage. But compare to personal computer, the existence of hard disk does not create a deep impression to many people. But its influence is undisputable, although it is not widely spread.
In the past 10 years, although hard disc industry has experienced the merger and acquisition exercise, as well as the strength change, but the industry competition has never changed.Following the tide of consumer attitude and change of user’s type, Hard disk industry response to the change accordingly. Hard disk has encountered a battling situation in the beginning of year 2000 due to the Y2K issue which weakeness the PC market and also the PC manufacturing cycle. As such, this has resulted in many HDD manufacturers started to switch the target by developed and penetrated intothe new micro hard disk market, which caused a great stir. Hard disk manufacturer had officially launched a new technology in year 2006 called as PMR (Perpendicular Magnetic Recording), which gave a faster and bigger impact to the flash drive memory market, this has naturally resulted in a competition among the same industry. But it raised to our query, is flash drive memory neglected the change of external environment and consumer behavior? Or it is the hard disk manufacturers who foreseen the greener pasture of hard disk industry, and worked together with the engineer’screativity in developing a new technology and new concept.
This research is based on the entrepreneur competition in hard disk industry to analyze its competitive advantages, strategy, specialty, and future development. With the example of the case study company, M-company (a hard disk components manufacturing company), it focused on analyzing this industry specialty, 5M analysis, literature discussion, company management strategy, organizational structure, enterprise culture, and SWOT analysis, all these will be taken into discussion and link it with the prospect of the whole hard disk industry to discover its best strategy policy in management method in order to stay competitive in the industry and also to reach the goal of long-term profits gaining.
