碩士 === 佛光人文社會學院 === 經濟學系 === 94 === The Analysis on the Price Fluctuation of Taiwan Rice student：Liu-Yi Advisor:Dr.Yuan-ho Lee Abstract Rice has been Taiwan main agriculture crop for hundred years and still plays an important role today even though Taiwan has turn out to be an industrial society from an agriculture one. Therefore, Taiwanese day’s life was affected by the rice price. Taiwan rice market had been protected by the government for the past and the market was forced to be opened after Taiwan completed the WTO membership application process since the WTO agreements requested an opened, equal and worldwide international trade market. A couple of WTO members could produce rice with competitive prices; the Taiwan rice prices are therefore triggered by the world trades. Five sections were contained in this study: I. The motivation the purpose, the method and the process of this study. II. Rearrangement and summary of the scholars’ and professors’ yearly research documents for agriculture policy on rice production, sales, and trades. III. An introduction for Taiwan policy regulations, production status and rice price fluctuations and the worldwide production and sales. IV. Analysis of the collecting data by single factor varying, having the others fixed. V. Conclusion and suggestion proposed. In order to trace the price fluctuations, using single factor varying method and dividing Taiwan to be north, central, south and east four regions, this study compares the average digits of two regions based on the white rice market retail prices in year 1996 – 2005. The result proves that the average retail prices are almost the same on north, central, south regions. The prices on east region are much lower. That’s because the living index is lower on east.
